So this is why noone has been commenting then is it, because the publish button is broken, well now I have discovered this magic problem, hopefully it will be fixed in one update or another, and this is what people like me get for beta testing web software now isn’t it. Well, at least we have a auto-update feature that can tell us what the hell is going on, and hopefully this will mean that I may eventually be able to post all this that I have been writing, heaven forbid. But hey, lets get a comment one time or another.

Well, I haven’t really blogged in over two weeks, and well, noones commented in the last month, so something must seriously be wrong. I’ll look into that later.

Anyway, incase anyone actually is listening, well reading, this is what the last month has really been like. Great. That’s it, but yeah I’m sure more details are requested than that, so I will give you some of them.

Lectures, have still remained interesting, this is very good, cos I was concerned that even thought the first week was good, they would start getting dull and not very interesting, luckily they have remained to still be very interesting, which I am very glad of. I have learned quite a lot and unlike Sixth Form which basically was a bit boring at times, all these lectures have remained interesting to me, as it is all stuff I am genuinely interested in, which should be helpful when it comes to exams, because I’m really interested I should naturally work harder to learn more, just to help fix my morbid curiosity over such things :)
Apart from lectures, well we’re starting a little pool tourney type thing with a couple of people in my flat, it will be fun if we can ever deceide on when to do this properly. So far I’m second with a 50% win rate, someone has 100% and another 0%. Well, from 2 games each, those are the only possible outcomes so yeah, maybe we will all do better later once it gets to the 20 or 30 games played each stage, and umm I still only have 1 win lol.

I perhaps haven’t been going out partying or whatever as much as some other people here, or even as much as some of the people from us back at school, but the way I am seeing it, really is that the most important part about Uni, getting pissed each night so blindingly drunk that you cannot remember anything that has happened the night before, and other stuff like that. But hey, I’m having fun doing what I am, if life is about enjoying yourself (which it is) surely it doesn’t matter what the things you are doing are (unless its illegal in which case thats bad), I am enjoying myself, if people don’t like it, then they don’t like it.

I have noticed that University seems to be the one place where the credit crunch really hasn’t hit people. I suppose this is because as students we are screwed and poor anyway, so being more poor doesn’t really affect us. Maybe we’ll sell the big issue, because there seem to be alot more of those people areound these days, and they’re getting more clever, hanging round near ATM machines and stuff.

I haven’t completely blown all my student loan yet. No, not entirely just most of it, so far my text book bill has gone up to about £250, and a couple of those books are just for the first semester, when Week 13 comes, I’ll need more. All I can say is thank fuck for the student discount that there has been at Waterstones for the past month, cos that really has helped. Also, thanks to the NUS Extra Card, 5% off at Amazon also helps a little. I hope I don’t have to spend too much more on text books, otherwise I will need to start magically finding money in places to help pay for them, and yes I know Skillers, I still need to magically make some money for Techious, but I’m sure we can find a way of getting some!!!

That is the main bits of what has been going on, I will try and post more regurally on this now but would help if stuff works round here.

Anyway, work is calling, dammit :P

Right, well I’m back and well, writing this just before I fall asleep or something, so apologies if I just die half way through this blog post. I am back, I have fought, and I have conquered (sleep deprivation). Anyway, to sum it all up in one word, it was AMAZING!!! I just had the most brilliant time I have had in such a long time, it was just incredible (or incredibubble or something), but yeah this is brilliant. Lots of different things happening on each floor, different music playing in different areas, and us all enjoying ourselves and socialising, lots of drinking, and of course, me taking a trazillion and one pictures.1

1 Trazillion by this definition equates to 162.

But hey, it was amazing, though we left at about half an hour before closing because we felt we had enjoyed alot, and yeah we had, it was flipping amazing.

I’m tired and well cba to write too much more, I can’t just word it properly, but here we go, the gallery picture thingymabobby:

Ok, that’s almost depressing already, one week gone already, Jesus Christ, there’s only 24 teaching weeks in the year and ones gone already?!?!?! Man, time flies fast. Wait, two years has gone since writing that sentence, naa just an exaggeration of sorts.

But yeah, woo awesome week of first lectures and stuff, still the basics, but I’m finding that really, I’m getting very interested in everything that I kinda lost the interest in for a while, but here everything seems all new, even if it’s not so it’s all awesome and stuff :D

Tuesday was lectures and tutorial, Wednesday was more lectures, Thursday was a couple and the “Introduction to Oscilloscope Skills” Lab, so we got to play with some nice new shiny stuff <3 I suppose it will come in useful at a later stage when I need to build circuits and stuff, which I will be doing soon building a security system, well a rudimentary one. Should be fun playing with assembly code and stuff :) Friday was just more lectures to wind down the week.17

This week I have had 3 9 o’clock wake ups. Unfortuantly this increases to 4 in 2 weeks when one of my other lectures start, so it will be a battle, me versus sleep, but hey more interesting, as long as I don’t sleep through my lectures, which I doubt would happen with them being this interesting.

Tonight is the Fresher’s ball, which is going to be awesome, even though it is like a 300 mile trek to the student union building, £20 the ticket cost, but I’m sure that it will be worth it, the entire student union building just to us, with chocolate fountains and stuff… we’ll I’ll leave that to another post when I get back…

This weekend, is basically just relaxing and reading some stuff in the text books I have bought already, and waiting for more to arrive, and other stuff like that basically. Anyway, as long as things stay as they are Uni should be great!

Right, I need to get ready :P

Well, thats one day down lol! Only two trillian to go. Naa, actually I found todays lectures to be quite interesting, even though they were basically just the classic “welcome to unit XXXXnnnnn” of whatever you want to call them. My Procedural Programming work was interesting, we’re just going to dive into C and just start there. Best tip ever I had, “you can’t be taught a programming language, you just have to pick it up as you go along“. Call me a bit stupid, but I had never written a piece of code in ANSI C before, so this meant that this should be interesting, learning to code properly, because well really, I probabily have picked up from other programming stuff a million and one bad habits that I need to get shot of first so that will be things to learn, but still fun :D
Engineering mathematics was also the only other thing that happened today. Now that is a double lecture, this means that regardless of the weird Bristol Hour, its a two hour (1h50 or something maybe) lecture so we cover more stuff in that time. Again being the first lecture it’s more, “this is what you will be doing” and “we assume you have forgotten everything so here we start”. But hey, vectors are easy, annoying as feck but still easy so hey, that’ll do for me :P.

Already bought one text book out of six trillion and submitted my first piece of coursework already, “write a script that does Hello, World!” now come on that isn’t particuraly difficult now is it?!? If I don’t get 100% on that I will be shocked.

Well, thats one day of stuff, I thankfully have an 11 o’clock start tommorow instead of 9, which should be good, and I also get to meet my tutor (twice, hes my first lecturer tommorow) which should be interesting.

Now for more TF2…

Hello again,

Now why isn’t anyone commenting? Something could be wrong here… or maybe I’m just that boring :P

Well, a week of fun and prepartory stuff has gone past, all in this mystical “Week 0″ which makes it sound like the all and end all of things that I really *should* be doing now that the week has started. My first lecture is at 9 o’clock in the morning, so the fact that I’m writing this at quarter past 1 in the morning, again perhaps I should make this quick and just go to bed so I don’t feel too shattered in the morning to actually turn up. Speaking of that, I have heard somewhere that in other unis, some people have been kicked out already for not turning up to any lectures. That shocks me somewhat, me here hours before my first lecture starts and there are people being kicked out already.

So, obviously I haven’t given up writing yet, because how else will Mark get his spam quota into my website, I mean a week without a comment, jeez I might have died or something!?! Anyway, the last week has kept me rather busy, which I like to be honest, Sunday was my day of finding my way around, and I did that quite well, found where I needed to be for most of the week, and by looking at my timetable I really only need to worry about this one room, PeelLT, which I think is in Geographical Sciences, but I will wait until Wednesday for that to make itself clear. Only issue is the fact that I need to walk like a mile and a half each day to uni all uphill, though there is a plus side that the going down is downhill :P but I’m sure a few shortcuts will come in useful by the time lectures really start.

Monday, well that was a good day with little to do, just signing up for my course, well my new course (I think?) because I am now doing “Computer Science and Electronics” instead of “Computer Systems Engineering“, which is basically the same course but apart from that it just gives me some more freedom into the third year between focusing on the computer science part (cryptography sounds fun) and the electronics part (like computer architecture) and stuff, I also quite like the new name, which helps a little :P. I also realised Monday that I didn’t have lined paper, which would be really useful for taking notes, so I went down into Broadmead and found a WHSmith and bought some, it seems they now charge for plastic bags, which I think is a very good idea, stops people wasting alot. How did I find my way to Broadmead? Well, I found this good website called walkit.com which is like navigation for cars finding a route, but gives the quickest way of walking from one place to another. It also has estimated times and how much energy you use and save in carbon emissions, I find this really interesting site and I should bookmark this for later :P

Tuesday was signing up for the faculty in the main union building, which really is the furthest away for anything that I will have to do, this basically involved me picking up my student card and flash drive, 512MB is really titchy compared to the 8GB one I have on order that I should get this weekend. One thing about that flash drive, part of it acts as a CD drive which is really weird, it only has the year handbook on but I find it really interesting, how did they do that, maybe I will be able to do that some day, or maybe I’m just a noob and should flash more stuff :P.

Tuesday night I went down to the Carling Academy for a few hours of listening to music and enjoying myself, being tea total really makes the night different to most peoples view, who just tend to drink down pints and pints of whatever weird drink they fancy drinking next. My feet really started to hurt by this point, from all that hill walking, so thankfully I went home a bit earlier than the closing time, only by about half an hour, but my feet were really killing me. Also, someone else wanted to go home early too, so I wasn’t a party killer! Woo!

Wednesday was some stuff from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, which mainly consisted of me being told a few times that as an engineer, if we screw up people die, just think if my software for an aeroplane crashes in the air then people are screwed really aren’t they. :/ Hopefully I won’t be doing something like that anytime soon lol! I also had some stuff with the department that needed doing, which was basic group exercises, like make the tallest paper tower in 1 minute. Well our one kinda had epic fail written all over it, and just fell to pieces, as we tried to rush it too much during the minute, even though we had quite a bit of time left, so we could have tried it a different way. Again, I am a Computer Scientist not a paper tower builder, which well based on my performance then it is just as well. Wednesday evening was the Northwell House barbeque which was good fun, we had an adult bouncy castle, and I’m sure I would have enjoyed it a bit more if my feet hadn’t have been really killing me by this point, not even soft plastic underneath them could stop them feeling like they were going to fall off. Got a few good pictures though of people trying hula hooping, and a video of Spez I might upload to facebook at some point…

Thursday was a case of more departmental stuff, as well as the introduction to the computer labs, which mainly just consisted of making sure that I could log onto the linux system and set up Thunderbird to check my emails etc. all the basics so I can code properly when it comes to starting code. Although I didn’t really learn much there it was quite good, got things set up etc. and I got to change my password from their default xP. More departmental things that afternoon, including a “Meet your tutor” which would have been better if I could have met my tutor but apart from that, another stupid quiz, which we only did well in the computing section, and lost epically but that was fun. Pizza and wine was on the menu after this, me being me I had pizza but left wine. I don’t drink emulators anyway. Thursday evening I gave doing things most night a rest and just relaxed a bit, because I really need to stay off my feet because they are really killing me. No seriously, they are out to get me :O

Friday was the Freshers’ Fair, which I didn’t spend much time in, it was too crouded for me, but I had to go anyway just so I can make sure I know where the union is, I didn’t join any societies because I couldn’t really find any that I find interesting, though I now know that there is a computer game society that I didn’t find before, where the hell was it!??!? Hopefully they take late entries, if not I might try persuading a couple of people to the great ship Techious :P. By then I felt really really tired so I came home for the weekend, not to run away as I originally planned a week ago, but just to get off my feet because well, they were on fire by this point. So Friday evening I got a trip home, so I could rest during the weekend, and bring some more stuff down ready for the great proper Uni experience.

Saturday I slept through mainly, and Sunday I come back, and here I am writing this. Being its about half 1 in the morning, perhaps I should go to bed before my first lecture at 9. Cyall,
