Right, this is part of the main unpacking done, obviously knowing me, the first thing I’ve tried to do is to try and get my computer on the internet. After fiddling with their security software, I’ve finally got it online, and it seems quite fast. I haven’t tried Steam but hopefully that should work later. If not then that’ll be me out of TF2 games for a while, though more importantly for Techious we’d better hope it works for skillers tommorow because if it doesn’t then that really is the end for Techious’ server, being that he pays for most of it.

Well, that’s it, last night of proper sleep for a year as yup thats it I leave my house and move into University. Well, I say move into Uni, my Student House is about one and half to two miles away from the main University precinct, so won’t that be fun lol. Everything’s packed and ready to go (some is even in the car already) so I’m ready for an early start; my aim is to get there for the start of the moving in time (10am) because there is like 4 car parking spaces if that for 200 people, so I really don’t want to be caught in the rush, that would just be utter chaos. No gaming for me tonight, the pc is in pieces ready to be built and I’m writing this on my laptop anyway.
How am I feeling about it? Well, to be honest I don’t know what to think, I’m really nervous about what I will find and will happen when I get there. The way I see it, one of two things will happen, either I will move in and instantly find people who become my friends, or I spend the entire year being completely and utterly isolated from everyone. Now, I know I will probably still play my games (alot) and work (alot) but I do not want things to come to the state where my room is just some door that is locked 24/7 with no one knowing who lives there, though knowing my luck, it’ll be a little that, but hopefully not that. Also, for the sake of everything we’ve done so far, I hope Steam works at University, otherwise the future of Techious and everything might be at risk, then again it is really Mark who it must work for being he seems to be paying for 90% of the server.
Uni itself, I’m not too sure, I haven’t actually done any work for real in months so the first couple of weeks are going to hit me hard. By the fourth week I’m sure I’ll have everything under control. Keeping in touch with everyone from Newent is also a priority for me, it seems even during the two weeks or less since the first people moved, things have started to drift a little with noone talking to anyone much. But hey, hopefully we’ll keep in touch, hence why I had the nice little “Our Group” forum on Techious, we can use that to keep in touch at least, even if we can’t do just Teamspeak or Skype or large group conversations on Windows Live (but dead) Messenger.
Anyway, I spose I better get off to bed for that early start (which soon 3pm will be an early start :P)
Is it just me or is every other advert on TV for spore at the moment. Apparently it is the best game in the universe or something. And yea, I want it, but I can’t afford it. Cheapest I can find it is £26.99 on Play.com and I can’t afford that dammit. So, I’m still stuck with the free creature creator until I can either find some money or it comes down in price (both happening would be the most ideal situation).
However, I sense the curse of buying games will follow me. It seems any game I buy on release is almost half the price a month later, and any game that I don’t buy in the first month will remain like that for the next million years or so. Being I haven’t got spore, chances are it is going to be one of the latter, especially with it being the huge hit it appears to be. I mean half my Steam list is on spore, and well it’s not even on Steam, thats just people that launch it through there. It’s currently 4th on the Xfire most played game list, and being it’s not even been out for a week, thats some feat! Only trailing between COD4,2 and WoW (wow that rubbish is popular).
My computer is running well, apart from I only get a framerate of 5-10 when I forget to turn folding@home-gpu off (6 hour work unit ftw!).
Left4Dead coming out in October, that shall also be awesome, can’t wait to see what Valve have done to pimp the Source Engine some more, though it seems that soon Source might be having a huge graphical upgrade, so DX10.1 might come in useful for ep3
More games to buy, just great. Now let me work this out, if I don’t eat for the next 3 months while I’m at Uni, I can afford to get spore and l4d. I know, I’ll try this new votey thing and see what the two people who read this thing I should do!
In other more home news, my photos site is down (noooooo) while I upload all 1 million gigabytes to the new server. It’s about 40% done so should be back up and running by the end of the week. And don’t worry Reedy, your blog’ll be back up soon enough!
Moving to Uni on the 27th. That is going to be one heck of a shock when I move in, though a bit of TF2 or HL2DM might take the edge off
No more matches though, I think last night set that we are screwed with that, and with the admin plugin kicking the wrong person :/ yeah, I think we need a bit of work all round,
That’s about it, hopefully enough for you to spam comments on Skillers
After literally one weekend of work, I am now able to announce and display the latest version of Spcook. This will now act as my blog and development site all tied together, documenting things as I travel through University over the next 4 years. This design is going to stay, but I might make a few changes here and there depending on how things go and if I get bored with things being exactly this way.
I aim to write in here reguarly as I move throughout University, allowing my freinds who can’t come with me to at least know what’s been going on with me for these next few years. Even if I can’t talk 24/7, hopefully this will provide a gateway to all the random and exciting things that have and will be going on.
This will also provide a home to random coding stuff I do, random stuff I just tinker with in my spare time as well as some things related to my Uni course.
Related to the site, I would briefly like to thank the following people for helping me release this site:
- John (Reedy/Lord Metritutus Merkwurdichliebe) - Tester, and yes I got rid of that retina-burning blue colour
- Mark (Skillers) - The guy whos server my site runs off. Thanks for letting me host this site here
(Oh yea, and visit Techious!)
Ok, short list, but had to be written.
I’m off to make the rest of the site match now, and update a million and one things,
Si
